Greenville ARP Church - Associate Minister Position

Description:
The Greenville ARP Church is looking for an experienced minister to fill the position of Associate Minister. The ideal candidate would have no less than ten years of ordained ministerial experience in Christian Education and Pastoral Care. He would be tasked with basic oversight of our Christian Education program and with assisting the Senior Minister in providing pastoral care to the whole congregation.
Specific Duties:
Christian Education:
- Ex-officio member of Christian Education Committee (meets 4-6x/year)
- Oversee our Director of Youth Ministry and Director of Children's Ministry (this duty may be shared with senior minister, depending on the situation).
- Oversee our adult Sunday School program
- We have seven adult Sunday School classes with more than two dozen teachers. Associate Minister would facilitate the growth of our adult SS program by helping them to evaluate which curricula best suit the needs of that class, to discover ways to pull more members into their classes, and to think about ways to improve the fellowship taking place in - and among - the classes.
- Associate Minister would organize and promote teacher training events at least twice/year.
- Associate Minister would work with Sunday School Officers to make sure Sunday School materials are ordered and distributed.
- Associate Minister would work with Senior Minister to identify outstanding teachers who could be tasked with teaching electives in the summer.
- Assist other staff in planning regular weekend conferences/seminars (on such topics as marriage, parenting, etc.)
- Oversee midweek prayer and Bible study meeting. Split teaching with senior minister and schedule guest speakers.
Pastoral Care:
- Ex-officio member of Congregational Life Committee (meets 3-4x/year)
- Assist Senior Minister in visiting sick and shut-ins.
- Oversee existing Pastors Partners program (meet 3-4x/year to develop visitation schedule)
- Implement plan for training the session/diaconate to become active in visitation
- Training existing officers
- Providing concise literature to assist them in their visits
- Work with shepherding groups coordinator (an elder) to develop system that ensures regular visitation.
- Maintain contact with Presidents of Men's and Women's Ministries and with the Keenagers ministry.
- Be available to counsel members as needed.
Additional Duties:
- Work with senior minister and administrative assistant to improve the organization, coordination, and communication of the various ministries of the church.
- Weekly one-on-one meetings with Senior Minister.
- Assist Senior Minister in leading Sunday worship.
- Preach 4+x/year
- Teach classes on Sunday mornings and/or Wednesday nights. Topics that need attention are: Marriage and family; Leadership training; Identifying and developing spiritual gifts; Essentials of ARP theology; Missions and Evangelism.
- Work with staff and members of Congregational Life Committee to plan annual Fellowship Retreat at Bonclarken (first weekend of May).
